We ask that everyone come to the school office before classes begin to take care of final paperwork (lunch application, missing forms, extended day program registration) and pick up gym uniforms. If you are paying tuition in two payments, you should make the first payment at this time. All others are to send their payments to SMART Tuition Management Co. on the day you selected.

The school office will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on: Tuesday, August 12^th and Wednesday, August 13^th.

BEGINNINGS FOR GRADES 1-8: Classes will start on Monday, August 25^th at 8:15 a.m. The first five days we will have half days with early dismissal at 11:30 a.m. We will begin full days on Tuesday, September 2nd. Dismissal on full days is 2:45 p.m. There is no meal service this entire week. Also, there is no morning or after school care.

 

BEGINNINGS FOR EARLY EDUCATION: Because our four year olds need to be helped to make a good start in their educational careers, their beginnings will need to be different from the rest. EE students will be scheduled to come with a small group of five or six students on one of the days during our first week of school. This way, the teachers can help them feel at home, teach them the necessary routines, and get to know them more quickly. They will be dismissed at 11:30 a.m. and will not eat lunch at school. From September 2^nd through September 5^th, all the children in the classroom will come to school for half days and they will be dismissed at 11:30 a.m. They will eat lunch at school on those days. The children will need to bring their lunch from school until you hear from the food server. You can pick up your child from the school lunch room (church hall) at 11:30 a.m. Please check in with the teacher when you come to take your child home (or whoever comes to do this). We want to become familiar with you or your child’s caregiver and we want the children to know that they must leave school only with you or the person you designate to pick them up.

 

BEGINNINGS FOR KINDERGARTEN: Our kindergarteners also need help in transitioning into their educational careers. Kindergarten students will be scheduled to come the first week in groups of eight to ten students on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Then, all the kindergarten students will come together on Thursday and Friday. They will be dismissed at 11:30 a.m. and not eat lunch at school. The following week they will begin full day classes with dismissal at 2:45 p.m. If your child did not take the hot lunch program last year or they are new to St. Pius V School, he/she needs to bring his/her lunch from home.

 

MEALS AT SCHOOL: The breakfast and hot lunch programs will begin on Tuesday, September 2nd. Breakfast will be served in the classroom after the children have arrived. Please refer to the enclosed letter for more information. We ask that you do not deliver lunch to your child from McDonald’s or other fast food places. We have found this to be disruptive. If your child does not take a hot lunch, please allow him/her to be responsible to bring a lunch from home. Parents who wish to help in the lunchroom are welcome, but we do not want you to feed your child. Our goal is independence! We would welcome your help for children who need assistance in opening milk cartons and lunch packs- and with cleaning tables.

 

CALENDAR: Enclosed with this letter is a copy of the school calendar for 2008-2009. Please keep it so that you will be aware of special events as well as days when we do not have classes.

 

WEEKLY NEWSLETTER and BROWN ENVELOPE: Every week I will be sending out a newsletter to communicate any events, business or special information I feel is relevant to the families of St. Pius V School. This letter is sent out in a brown envelope with your oldest child’s name on it. This envelope is sent out every Wednesday and must be signed and returned the next day. We also use this envelope for distributing the weekly extended day invoices and monthly meal order forms and menus. This is a very important tool for communication, so please help your child keep track of it.

 

MORNING PROGRAM: We will provide child care free of charge from 7:30 a.m. to 8:15 a.m. in the Music Room. You need to fill out an application for child care if you want your child to participate. This can be done on the two days we are here in August.

 

AFTER SCHOOL CARE: Our extended day program will begin on September 2^nd. Please read the enclosed letter regarding hours and prices. You can sign up for extended day care during our office hours in August.

 

SCHOOL UNIFORMS for 1^st through 8^th grades: boys consist of navy blue pants and white polo shirts. Girls may wear navy blue pants, skirts, or jumpers and white blouses. Students must wear solid colored brown, black or navy blue shoes. We recommend a rubber sole that will not be slippery when the students play outside for recess. Students have the option of wearing a sweater that is navy blue or red in color, in accordance with the uniform policy outlined in the handbook.

 

GYM UNIFORMS for all students consist of a navy blue T-shirt, shorts, sweat pants and sweatshirt. These must be purchased from the school. Each piece is inscribed with ST. PIUS V. They may be worn interchangeably according to the weather. Gym uniforms will be worn all day on the two days of gym classes (Tuesday and Thursday) unless otherwise informed. Gym shoes must be plain white with white shoe laces. They may be worn only on gym days.

 

The gym uniform orders placed in the spring are packaged and ready for pick up during the office hours on August 12^th and 13^th. Additional uniforms may be available for sale, otherwise we will order them for September delivery. Payment for gym uniforms can now be made with a credit card. Ask about it on registration days.

 

STUDENT INSURANCE: All students wishing to participate in extra curricular sports programs must carry health insurance. Proof of insurance must be presented along with the sports contract.

 

BACKGROUND CHECKS: Parents, Guardians, and other relatives are welcom to come to the school to help in scheduled activities, lunch, recess, field trips, etc. Anyone wishing to participate must have a background check on file with the Archdiocese of Chicago. If you completed one in the last school year, you do not need to do another one. Instructions on how to complete a background check can be obtained from the school office.

 

PARISH CONTRIBUTION: Please be sure to use your Sunday envelopes when making your contributions at mass. This is the only way to track how much money you are contributing to the parish. Families should participate in Sunday envelope donations at least 75% of the time or make a one-time contribution of at least $150.00. Remember that we receive substantial financial support from the Parish community every year.

 

IMMUNIZATION LAW AND PHYSICAL EXAMINATIONS: All students are required by law to be up to date on their immunizations BEFORE THEY START CLASSES. All students new to St. Pius as well as those entering Early Education, Kindergarten and sixth grades must have a physical exam (If your child attended fifth grade at St. Pius V School last year and they completed a physical examination, they do not have to submit another exam). The form must also be signed and dated by a parent/guardian. The Illinois State Board of Health will be checking health files to be sure all students are in compliance with the state health law. You can have your health care provider fax the form directly to us (312-226-7265).

 

DENTAL EXAMINATIONS: State law that mandates that all students new to St. Pius and those entering Kindergarten, Sixth and Second grades must have a dental examination on file. The Illinois State Board of Health will be checking health files to be sure all students are in compliance with the state health law.

 

EYE EXAMINATIONS: A new state law requires that all students in kindergarten and any new student must have an eye examination. Examinations must be performed by a liscensed optometrist or medical doctor who performs eye examinations. Forms are available in the school office in August or through the Illinois State Board of Education website, www.isbe.net.

 

This is a very exciting and possibly nervous time for you and your child. Some of you are beginning your educational careers at St. Pius V School. Pedimos que todos vengan a la escuela antes del comienzo de clases para acabar de llenar todas las formas, hacer aplicación para precios reducidos de almuerzo y para recoger los uniformes de educación física. Si va a pagar su cuenta por completo o si va a hacer dos pagos debe hacerlo en este tiempo. Las mensualidades deben ser enviadas directamente a SMART.

Comienzo para grados 1-8: Clases van a comenzar el lunes, 25 de agosto a las 8:15 a.m. Los primeros cinco días serán días de salida a las 11:30 a.m. Días completos comienzan el martes 2 de septiembre con salida a las 2:45 p.m. No hay servicio de almuerzo la primera semana y tampoco cuidado de niños.

 

Comienzo para EE: Porque los niños de 4 años necesitan ayuda para comenzar su carrera educacional, ellos van a comenzar en grupos de 5 o 6 niños. La maestra le llamara para decirle cual día va a comenzar su niño/a. Un padre se debe quedar el primer día para ayudar a orientar al estudiante. La salida esta primera semana será a las 11:30 a.m. y no comerán almuerzo en la escuela. La siguiente semana también saldrán a las 11:30 a.m., pero comerán almuerzo en la escuela. Su niño debe traer un almuerzo de casa hasta que el coordinador de comidas le avise de otra manera. Cuando vengan a recoger a su niño/a deben ver con la maestra para que ella empiece a conocer quien va a recoger a su niño/a. Es importante que su niño/a sepa que nada mas la persona autorizada puede recogerlo de la escuela.

 

Comienzo para kindergarten: Los estudiantes de kindergarten también necesitan ayuda con su comienzo de clases. Los estudiantes de kindergarten van a venir a clases la primera semana en grupos de 8 a 9. Después todos van a venir el jueves y sábado. La siguiente semana van a venir toda la semana y el día completo. Si su niño/a vino a San Pió el año pasado y recibió un almuerzo de la escuela, se le dará un almuerzo. Si su niño/a es nuevo a la escuela, entonces debe traer su propio almuerzo hasta que el coordinado de comidas le avise de otra manera.

 

Almuerzo en la escuela: El programa de almuerzo y desayuno comenzara el martes, 2 de septiembre. Desayuno será servido en el salón después de que lleguen los niños/as. Hay una carta incluida refiriendo este programa. Le pedimos que no traigan almuerzos de afuera de lugares como McDonald’s, esto es una distracción para los otros niños/as. Si su niño/a no va a comer el almuerzo de la escuela, debe traer un almuerzo de casa. Los padres son bienvenidos a ayudar, pero no deben dar de comer a su niño/a, la meta es independencia. Usted puede ayudar a la maestra con abrir la leche o con limpieza.

 

Calendario: Hay un calendario incluido con esta carta. Guárdelo para que sepan las fechas importantes del año que viene.

 

Carta de la directora y sobre amarillo: Cada semana voy a mandar una carta para comunicar eventos, asuntos, e información especial. Esta carta es mandada a casa cada semana en el sobre amarillo. Este sobre es mandado a casa cada miércoles y debe ser firmado y regresado el próximo día. También usamos este sobre para distribuir los recibos de cuidado de niños/as y la orden de almuerzos. Este es un método muy importante de comunicación, por favor ayude a su niño/a de mantenerlo.

 

Programa de mañanas: Vamos a tener cuidado de niños/as en las mañanas de 7:30 a.m. a 8:15 a.m. en el salón de música. Necesita llenar una aplicación para que su niño/a pueda participar. Esto se puede hacer en los días que estamos aquí en agosto.

 

Cuidado de niños/as en las tardes: El programa de cuidado de niños/as en la tarde va a comenzar el martes, 2 de septiembre. Hay una carta incluida con los precios y reglamentos del programa.

 

 

Uniformes para 1o a 8o grados: para niños consiste de pantalón de vestir azul marino y camisa blanca de polo. Niñas pueden vestir con pantalón o falda azul marino y blusa blanca. Los zapatos para todos deben se negros, azules o cafés de vestir. Se recomienda una planta de hule para que no se resbalen durante el recreo. Los estudiantes pueden usar un suéter azul o rojo, de acuerdo al reglamento sobre uniformes del manual de padres.

 

Uniformes de Educación física consiste de playera azul, pantalón largo o corto o una sudadera. Se debe comprar el uniforme directamente de San Pió con las letras de San Pió imprimadas en los artículos. Dependiendo la temporada, se pueden usar las piezas intercambiadas. Los días de educación física son los martes y jueves. Zapatos para gym deben ser deportivos de color blanco con agujetas blancas. Se pueden usar solo en días de educación física.

 

Las órdenes de uniformes hechas en la primavera están listas para recoger el 12 y 13 de agosto, durante horas de oficina. Si hay uniformes que sobran, se pueden comprar. Vamos a hacer otra orden en septiembre.

 

Seguros de Salud: Todos estudiantes que desean participar en actividades de deportes después de clases deben cargar con seguro medico. El comprobante debe ser incluido con el contrato de deportes.

 

Reviso de Antepasados: Padres, Guardianes, y otros parientes están bienvenidos a venir a la escuela a actividades, almuerzo, recreo y paseos. Cada persona que desea venir a la escuela debe de estar registrada con el Arquidiócesis de Chicago. Si usted se registro el año pasado, no lo tiene que hacer otra vez. Las instrucciones de como hacerlo están en la oficina de la escuela.

 

Contribuciones a la Iglesia: Asegúrese que están usando los sobres dominicales para dar sus limosnas cuando van a misa. Esta el la manera de contar sus contribuciones. Las familias de la escuela deben contribuir a la iglesia o dar una donación de $150.00. Recuerden que la escuela recibe apoyo de la comunidad de San Pió.

 

Leyes de Vacunas y Exámenes Físicos: Todos los estudiantes están requeridos de estar corrientes con sus vacunas antes de comenzar clases. Todos los estudiantes nuevos a San Pió deben tener un examen nuevo. Los estudiantes entrando a 6º también deben tener un nuevo examen físico (si su niño/a estuvo en San Pió el año pasado, no tienen que entregar un nuevo examen).

 

Leyes Sobre Examen de Visión: Una nueva ley del estado requiere que todos los niños/as que van a entrar a kindergarten o si son nuevos a San Pió, deben tener un nuevo examen de visión. Este examen debe ser dado por un optometrista o doctor medico licenciado por el estado. Las formas están disponibles en la oficina de la escuela o en el sitio de Internet del estado de Illinois, www.isbe.net.

 

Exámenes Dentales: Hay una nueva ley que requiere que todos nuevos estudiantes y todos que van entrando a Kindergarten, Sexto y segundo grados tengan un nuevo examen dental.

 

Este es un tiempo de gusto y también de nervio para su niño/a. Algunos de ustedes están comenzando sus carreras educativas. Queremos hacerles sentirse cómodos. Por favor llámenos con cualquier pregunta o duda.
