Do you want the best for your pre-school child?

The Early Education program at St. Pius V School hosted an Open House on Tuesday, April 13, as part of the Week of the Young Child activities.

St. Pius is certified by the National Association for the Education of Young Children, sponsors of the week-long campaign to honor children and the teachers who educate and care for them.

Gabrielle Nidus, a coach with UIC's Early Reading First, spoke to parents and provided information and answered questions about this initiative. As a partner site with the UIC program, St. Pius V School is able to offer this valuable early literacy education to its pre-school students.

Early literacy education leads to dramatic improvement in children's learning, Ms. Nidus said. UIC is working with several schools, including St. Pius V, with funding from a federal grant and children at each of the schools have demonstrated signficant improvement through participation in the program.
